The School of Pharmacy and Food Engineering (SPFE) at Wuyi University was established in November 2023 through the integration of the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Engineering and the Faculty of Biology and Food Engineering, both previously part of the School of Biotechnology and Health Sciences. The discipline of Pharmacy within SPFE has been designated as a key provincial discipline and has earned the distinction of being recognized as a world-class discipline in 2024 Soft Science global ranking . Currently, it stands as one of the principal disciplines driving the construction of Wuyi University's Doctoral Degree Granting Project.
SPFE offers two undergraduate programs: Pharmaceutical Engineering and Food Science & Engineering. In addition, the school also confers an academic Master's degree in Pharmacy and a professional Master's degree in Biology and Medicine. As of now, SPFE boasts a vibrant student community, comprising 396 undergraduates and 290 graduate students. The school has forged strategic collaborative partnerships with renowned academic institutions, including the University of Macau, Jinan University, and Nagasaki University, as well as other distinguished universities. These alliances are committed to refining a training model aimed at nurturing top-tier talent and to the relentless pursuit of educational excellence.
The school currently has 53 full-time teachers, among whom 52 hold doctoral degrees, 31 have senior professional titles, 9 are doctoral supervisors, and 52 are master supervisors. Among the faculty members, there is a Member of the Korean Academy of Sciences, 9 high-level talents recognized at the provincial or higher level, one scholar listed among Elsevier's "Most Cited Chinese Scholars" for 2023, and two scholars featured in the top 2% of the world's leading scientists.
These faculty members cover fields such as pharmacy, food science and technology, and life sciences, forming a multidisciplinary, highly collaborative, and integrated teaching and research team led by academicians and renowned teachers. Over the past five years, the school's teachers have won 4 awards, including the Guangdong Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award, and have led over 200 scientific research projects. Among these, there are 23 projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China and 22 provincial and ministerial-level projects, with a total research funding exceeding 54 million yuan.
The school possesses several high-level scientific research platforms, including the Guangdong Key Laboratory of Large Animal Models ，，，the Key Laboratory for Development and Utilization of Medicinal and Edible Homologous Resources of Guangdong Higher Education Institutes, Guangdong Engineering Technology Research Center for the Development and Application of Large Animal Models, the Huanan Branch Center for Gene-Edited Pig of the National Center of Technology Innovation for Animal Model, and the International Healthcare Innovation Institute (Jiangmen). Equipped with modern precision scientific instruments and equipment valued at nearly 400 million yuan, these platforms provide the school with a reliable guarantee for talent cultivation, discipline construction, and social services.
